Does anyone know what became of the OI. I had heard it went into
mothballs again but now I wonder. Jitze Couperus mentioned that
CDC was looking for someone "with Cyber maintenance skills who
was willing to spend n months per year on a tub floating
somewhere in the far east...". This sounds like it might be the
OI in a new incarnation.

No, OI is alive and well. I know one of the CE's currently on her.
She was never moth balled but did have some major refits about 2 years
ago.

As far as I know, they're still active; I think I would have heard if
they had shut down. The lastest email that I received from Jane Jacaruso
(the software support analyst on the boat) was dated 04/23/2002,
about a year and a half ago.

It's probably safe to say that they have the oldest hardware and software
of anyone actively running NOS.

Hardware: Two CYBER 175 mainframes, half-track 844-4x disks, 66x tapes,
580 printers

Software: NOS 1.2-439 (NOS 1, Release 3)

Both hardware and software date from about 1976 and were never upgraded,
although I did some Y2K software patches for them in 1998.

Google knows all :-)

Apparently the OI is still operating, though not much longer? See

release dated December 18, 2003.

While Raytheon may have the replacement contract, it looks like
Syntegra (formerly Control Data) may be subcontacting for some of it.
I say this because I read in the press release:
